Richard Barthe` A Well Known African American Artist Of The Black Past.
Richard Barthe' was born in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi 1901 and raised in New Orleans. He grew up in a Roman Catholic household who loves drawing and painting. Richard never continue his education beyond grade school. But between sixteen and early twenties Barthe` supported himself with several services and unskilled jobs such as: service, porter and cannery work. A priest noticed Barthe`s artistic talent when he contributed two of his paintings for an church event. The priest encouraged Barthe` that he should enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Mostly Barthe bronze sculptures are artistic of African dance artists and he sculpted the American Eagle Social Security building in Washington D.C.
