GOD Rest The Soul Of Creator "SOUL TRAIN" Don Cornelius
On the first day of Black History month February 2012, African-Americans and others mourned the lost of American's television show host/producer. He was best known as the creator of the nationally syndicated dance and music franchise "Soul Train."
"Soul Train" started in 1971 Springfield, ILLINOIS. As I remembered as a young girl watching "Soul Train", learning the latest dance. Donald Cortez "Don" Cornelius was born September 27, 1936 on Chicago's South Side and raised in Bronzeville neighborhood were the ILLINOIS Institute Of Technology one of the top institution in the country; ILLINOIS College of Optometry and Michael Reese Hospital which now Cook County Hospital. The Bronzeville area where Don Cornelius grew-up also associated with the development area of well-known African-Americans:
Andre "Rube" Foster (Founder Of The Negro Baseball League)
Ida B. Wells (A Civil Rights Activist, Journalist and Organizer of NAACP-The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and a Chicago Housing Development, that demolished had been name after her),
Margaret Taylor-Burroughs (noted artist, author and of the co-founders of the DuSable Museum of African-American History)
Bessie Coleman (The first African-American woman pilot)
Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brooks, (famous author, Poet and first African-American recipient of the Pulitzer Prize. She was well-known for her poem "We Real Cool" )
Margaret "Marla Gibbs" Theresa Bradley( an American television and film actress and singer) she played Louise and George Jefferson's sarcastic maid, Florence Johnston "The Jefferson" and Mary Jenkins "227."
Samuel "Sam" Cooke was an American gospel, R&B, soul, and pop singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. His major hits records were "You Send Me", "A Change Is Gonna Come", "Cupid", "Chain Gang", "Wonderful World", and "Twistin' the Night Away."
and Louis "Lou Rawls" Allen (legendary Singers) was an American soul, jazz, and blues singer. He released more than 60 albums, sold more than 40 million records and appeared as an actor in motion pictures and on television, and voiced-over many cartoons.
Louis "Pops" Armstrong (legendary trumpet player and band leader who performed in many of Chicago's night clubs).
